Kanchanaburi: The Bridge on the River Kwai
Kanchanaburi is located west of Bangkok and the province faces the border between Thailand and Myanmar, about two hours from Bangkok.
There is an internationally famous bridge over the Kwai river which served as the setting of the movie " Bridge over the River Kwai ", constructed on the ultimate sacrifices.

I got to know later, but Kanchanaburi had a lot of fights between different races such as Siam (Thailand) and the Khmer Empire or Burma.

[Kanchanaburi] The Bridge on the River Kwai

The bridge got to be internationally famous for the movie " The Bridge on the River Kwai ".
They say that this bridge was built on the ultimate sacrifices to make a route from Thailand to Burma by Japanese Army during the world war II in 1943, and a lot of prisoners who lost their lives during the construction of the bridge were in the War Cemeteries in the town.

The bridge was 415 meters long and made of wood when it was completed.
It was destroyed by the Allied Forces and rebuilt with iron. The present bridge was restored after the war, and the only half-circle-shaped parts are from the original bridge.

By the way, this bridge is still used even now and trains go and come.
(I didn't know that. :) )
