When you want to ask if there are .../if you have ... or not, try and use "Me ... Mai" in Thai language.

When you want to ask "where is ... ?", use "Yuu Thee Nai" in Thai language.

  •  "Where is ___ ? " -> "___ Yuu Thee Nai ? "
    Put any place you want to go into "___" instead.

  • bus stop: Paai Rot Mei ( ป้ายรถเมล์ )
  • bank: ThaNnaa Khaan ( ธนาคาร )
  • post office: PraiSanii ( ไปรษณีย์ )
  • postbox: Tuu PraiSnee ( ตู้ไปรษณีย์ )
  • Sky train station (BTS):
    Sathaanee Rotfai B T S ( สถานี รถไฟ B T S )
    Sathaanee Rotfaifaa ( สถานี รถไฟฟ้า )  (this may be used more .. ?)
  • Ticket/booking office: Thee Khaay Tuaa ( ที่ขายตั๋ว )
  • ticket gate: Thee Truaat Tuaa ( ที่ตรวจตั๋ว )
  • hospital: Rong Phayabaan ( โรงพยาบาล )
  • airport: SaNaamBin ( สนามบิน )

    (People in Thailand call their country Krung Thaep)

North, south, east and west
Now, let's say four points of the compass in Thai language.

I'll go south. pai taai krab/ka
ไป ใต้ ครับ/ค่ะ
"North" is "nuea" in Thai language.
This sentence would be used like when someone asked you "Where are you going ?".
When you want to say another directions, use the words below instead of north (nuea).

  • east: tawan aawk (ตะวันออก)
  • west: tawan tok (ตะวันตก)
  • south: taai (ใต้)
  • north: nuea (เหนือ)
  • northeast: tawan aawk chiang nuea (ตะวันออก เฉียง เหนือ)
  • northwest: tawan tok chiang nuea (ตะวันตก เฉียง เหนือ)
  • southeast: tawan aawk chiang taai (ตะวันออก เฉียง ใต้)
  • southwest: tawan tok chiang taai (ตะวันตก เฉียง ใต้)

  • chiang: slanting, askew

  • RodTid: traffic jam
  • Mark: very
  • Mah: come
  • chaa: late
  • jang-leeuy: putting at the end of the sentence, means "greatly"
  • na: added at the end of the sentence to make it softer or politer.
  • Laew: past

    When you drive, surely you want to say that so often.
    Try and mutter a little loud. :D

  • "Mah Laew !"
    This is really convenient.
    Not only bus or train but it's used for TV programs.

  •  When you are in a car and the car is going back;

เบา ๆ ๆ ๆ
  • "Thoy" means "move back";
    It's okay to say as many as you want. :D
    You can use this phrase to say "stay aside (for me to go)"

  • "Bau" means "softly";
    In the case of car going back, that means "going back slowly and say "bau bau bau...."
    It can be used when a car is coming the right place to stop.
    (I like this phrase "bau bau bau..." very much. :D)

  •  NOTE: How to write "repeated words"
    Showing a word repeats, " ๆ " is used.
    Therefore, "Bau bau bau" ( เบา ๆ ๆ ๆ ) is; Bau ( เบา) + " ๆ " .

Taxi
  • Take me to ...
    Let's try the expression, "take me to ..." in Thai language.

Take me to Wat Prakaew (Grand Palace). chuai paapai wat prakaew noi krab/ka
ช่วย พาไป วัดพระแก้ว หน่อย ครับ/ค่ะ
"chuai paapai ...." means "take me to ....".
The word in the end "noi" means "a little" and it makes the sentence sound softer.

  • chuai: please do ..., help
  • paapai: take me to ...
  • wat prakaew: wat prakaew, or the Grand Palace
  • noi: makes sentence softer

  • Turn right
    You will say,"turn right" or "go straight" when you are in a taxi or ask someone how to get somewhere.
    Let's learn this kind of expressions in Thai language.

Turn right (here). liao khwaa (trong nii) Krab/Ka
เลี้ยว ขวา (ตรง นี้) ครับ/ค่ะ
Go straight. trong pai Krab/Ka
ตรง ไป ครับ/ค่ะ
When you want to say "here", use "trong nii".
If not "right" but "left", "saai"(ซ้าย) can be used instead of "khwaa".
(liao "saai Krab/Ka)

  • liao: turn
  • khwaa: left
  • saai: right
  • trong nii: here
  • trong: straight
  • pai: go

Going out
Here, there are some phrases about going out.
First of all, the phrase is "stay at home all day", though. :D

  • Loei: emphasis, putting more feelings

Let me go through. Khor Tang Noi Krab/Ka
ขอ ทาง หน่อย ครับ/ค่ะ
  • Khor: ask for; "I'd like...", "Can/May I have...?"
  • Tang: way
  • Noi: a little (make sentence softer)
