Sea Shell Museum in Phuket
The largest Sea Shell museum in Thailand.
Phuket is one of the most famous and popular resort in Thailand or in Southeast Asia. It's located about 860 kilometers south of Bangkok, around one and 20 minutes flight. You can fly directly from Japan.
Since the disastrous tsunami, Indian Ocean earthquake in 2004, Phuket has been recovered and as of Aug. 2007, it looks as before.

Phuket is the largest island in Thailand, as large as Singapore, and it is the only one place that the whole island is a province. It has wonderful and beautiful beaches facing the Andaman sea, a lot of smaller islands around, mountains converging about 77 percent of the main island. You can enjoy various attractions, not only marine sports but golf, trekking and river rafting. The biggest theme park in Phuket, "Phuket FantaSea" with state-of-the-art technology and special effects is also ready to meet you.

By the way, the name "Phuket" is from Malay word 'bukit' which means hill or mountain.

[Phuket] Scenery along the coast

Scenery 1: if it was sunny...
You can see the lovely landscapes along the coast.

However, it was cloudy or rainy when we visited here as last time. (Again. So sad !)
If it was sunny, it would be even more wonderful. Don't tell Phuket doesn't like us. :D

By the way, people in Phuket say, there are two seasons here; Summer or Rainy ...

*1) His Royal Highness Prince Abhakara Kiartiwonges, Prince of JumBorn
Prince Abhakara Kiartiwonges, the 28th children of King Rama V (King Chulalongkorn the Great ), was born in Dec. 1880.

The prince was sent to England to study at the age of thirteen and became a naval cadet in the Royal Academy of England. Six years later, the prince returned to Thailand. He was the first Thai prince to establish Royal Thai Naval Academy and the Naval Engineering School in Thailand. The prince built the first military base in Phuket.

With his love and devotion dedicated to the Royal Thai Navy, Admiral Krom Luang Jumborn Khet Udomsakdi was greatly loved and highly respected by all Thai and all members of the Royal Thai Navy. As a result, the prince is honored as " the Father of the Navy".

[Phuket] Wat Chalong

Wat Chalong is the most famous and popular among 29 temples in Phuket.
They say that if you haven't seen Wat Chalong, you haven't seen Phuket.
Wat Chalong is the most famous and popular among 29 temples in Phuket. They say that if you haven't seen Wat Chalong, you haven't seen Phuket.
Not sure but it was built in 1837 under Rama 2.

In the 19th century, more than 30 thousand people came to work in the tin mines. As the production decrease, a rebellion happened by the Chinese tin miners, or "Angyee" in 1876, during the reign of King Rama V. Two highly revered monks, Luang Po Cham and Luang Po Chuang stopped the rebellion and acted as a mediator. The King then bestowed Luang Po Chaem the ecclesiastical title of Phra Kru Wisit Wongsacharn.
The two monks and their pupil, Luang Po Gluam, are housed in the sermon hall (viharn). It is believed that the two monks had magical powers and are still prayed to, the objects of respect and recipients of the offerings by Phuket people generally.

There is a huge pagoda (stupa); the top of it houses a fragment of bone of Buddha (it's said to be a tooth of Buddha). There is a museum as well where elaborate wax dolls of the three monks are enshrined.

You should visit this temple when you come to Phuket. :)

Sea Shell Museum in Phuket, the largest Sea Shell museum in Thailand.
Sea Shell Museum in Phuket, the largest Sea Shell museum in Thailand.

Two or three thousands species of sea shells including fossils, especially the sea shells you've never seen from Andaman Sea, are charmingly displayed in the wide space.
(The atmosphere is, they are showed like decorations of something.)

The giant Andaman Golden Peal, 140 karats in weight, that makes you think of it as an egg, ammonite fossils, familiar to museums, and a large lobster you can see in the picture and cute and rare sea shells are displayed with explanations in English and Thai language.

If you have time, why don't you drop by there to make friends with them ? :D
