Thailand - Lampang

Photo Gallery of Lampang in Thailand.

" Lampang " is located in northern Thailand, about 80km south of Chiang Mai.
About one and a half hours by car, around 600 km from Bangkok.)
I heard that it had been called " Khelang Nakhon " from our tour guide.
Lampang:  the scenery of carriage stop.
In northern Thailand, there are cities such as Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Lamphun, Nan and Mae Hong Son, and they belonged to the ancient kingdom " Lanna Thai " before Siam (Thailand) unified the country.

" Lanna " started in 1259 by King Meng Rai the Great.
The kingdom had an influence on Laos and China, but it was controlled by Burma (Myanmar) from 1558.
(It's said that Lanna was under Burma for more than 200 years and the influence from Burmese culture can be seen. I don't know if this is true or not because I don't know much about Burma... :D )

[Lampang] Scenery of the city

went to Lampang from Chiang Mai by car. Day trip. :)
From the tourist map, there still have a lot of places to visit.

(Can not see clear because the picture is a little too small. :D )

The impression of the city was that it was larger than I expected.

[Lampang] Carriage

Talking about Lampang, " Carriage ". It's very famous among people in Thailand.

They have a carriage stop and carriages line along a pedestrian way. (You can ride and go sightseeing at 300 Bahts per hour. as of August, 2004.)

Carriages go on the street where cars also run, but it looks like carriages are stronger than cars because cars tend to be reserved and run against carriages. :D

[Lampang] Wat Prakaeo Don Tao

After getting on a carriage and go for a while while relaxing, we reached this temple " Wat Prakaeo Don Tao ".
After getting on a carriage and go for a while while relaxing, we reached this temple " Wat Prakaeo Don Tao ".

This temple was built more than 1,000 years ago and the big Chedi in the picture is about 50m high. It seems that hair of a famous monk is enshrined in it.

It is known that the Emerald Buddha, the most important Buddha statue of Thailand, now in the royal Wat Phra Kaeo in Bangkok, was enshrined here in Lanna Thai era. (The Emerald Buddha was moved to Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Laos, and now in Bangkok.)
Hair of a monk ?

It was built in 1895 by Mong Chan Ong Chandraviroj and explained that it has a marriaged style of northern Thai and Burma buildings; Veranda is Burmese style , roof and other basic parts are Lanna Thai style, and the building has 116 teakwood pillars.

(30 Bahts to enter as of August, 2004. The picture says in Thai " Students in a school uniform is for free.)
