Thailand - Floating Market (Ratchaburi)
Photo Gallery of Floating Market in Thailand.
Damnoen Saduak Floating Market. A lot of people enjoy it.
It seems that there are a few floating markets in Bangkok. The floating market I visited is called "
Damnoen Saduak Floating Market" in
Ratchaburi and the biggest and the most popular one in Thailand. It's located
about 80 km from Bangkok developed for cultural-preservation and tourism
in the reign of Rama IV in 1864.
They sell various products such as vegetables, fruits, bags and decorative
figurines, not only from Bangkok but from other areas in Thailand.
It opens around from dawn till past noon and it might be hard for those
who are not good at getting up early. :D
(I visited there by car but I was almost sleeping in the car... )
There is another floating market, Ampawa floating market, not so far away
from here in
Samut Songkram. It's said that
Damnoen, the morning market and Ampawa, the evening market.

You can ride on a boat here for shopping around.
The fare is 300 Baht (as of August in 2004) and you can go around the market.
I'm not so sure but it takes around one to two hours. |

Getting busier and busier. Wow. Time to the market on the boat !
The market is very vigorous with a lot of people selling various things
on the boats.
At first, it was not so busy on the canal but soon extremely crowded. Like
in the center of Bangkok, the boat can not go ahead at all. :D |

Not only on the boats but various shops on the both sides of the canal.
You'll see a lot of shops not only on the boats but along the canal. They sell various gifts and something else that I can not imagine who will
buy. :D
It's a lot of fun even only looking at the products. |

[Floating Market] Others
|
Something else that I noticed while going around the floating market. |
Warning of cobras (If encountered them, it would be okay to say hello to them ? :D ) |
A little dangerous ? (Is this a special gift to put a big snake around your neck ? She looked fun ...) |
A house by the canal (A house of a boatman/boatwoman of the market, I guessed.) |
